“The Word of God is living and active.”
God’s Grace Since WWII
In Februrary of 1940, a group of Christians formed a congregation in Montrose, CO as members of the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod. They took the name St. John’s Lutheran Church, bought a little white church building on Park Ave., and remained there until 2001. At that time the congregation sold the building, bought new property, moved into a temporary storefront location, and changed their named to Living Word Lutheran Church.
In 2011 they purchased the current property on which they are now located (2820 Peyton Dr.) and built a 5000 sq. ft. facility with the help of Builders for Christ.
Living Word Lutheran Preschool opened a year later and operated in the fellowship area of the church building until 2016. In the Fall of that year Builders for Christ was utilized again for a 2000 sq. ft. addition that contains a large room for the preschool, an office, bathroom, storage room, and an extra classroom for Sunday School.
Throughout the decades the people, the leaders, the location, and the facilities have changed, but the same unchanging Word of God has always remained the same.
Why We Exist
The mission of this group of believers is to preach and teach the Word of God to those within this congregation and to share the Word of God to those outside of this congregation.
What We Believe
The Truth of God’s Word
We believe that the Bible is the word of God himself. It is without error and contains everything the Lord wants us to know for our life here and our life in heaven. Everything we preach, teach, and do is directed by God’s Word found in the Bible.
Living Word Lutheran Church is a Christian congregation associated with the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod (WELS). Every congregation belonging to this larger church body agrees in all teachings of Scripture and we are proud to be associated with such a strong group of Christians that holds to the truths of God’s Word in every way.
Why & How We Worship
The worship style of our congregation could be described as “Vintage Christianity.” We take the tried and true sections, songs, and prayers of Christianity over the past 2000 years and combine them with updated language, new music, and applications to your every-day life.
There is an order to our worship without being rigid, a pattern without being monotonous. It stresses the importance of God’s Word and allows Christians to participate instead of simply sitting back and being entertained.
We also encourage the entire family to worship together. From infants to the elderly, it’s important for a family to grow together in God’s Word, learn what it means, and praise the Lord at the same time. The noises of children are welcome at Living Word! It may be distracting to the parent at the time, but it is an invaluable learning experience that will produce fruit in the future.
